This painting was created in 2006 in Brighton. Derived from a photographic study of stained glass in old church close to my childhood home, I took as a teenager. This anthropomorphised piece starts the planar expansion of later works, while exploring layering of light within the work. In part inspired by 'Light of the World' by Holman Hunt, I was considering the manner in which we raise individuals beyond their human frailty to the point where they bow under the pressure, and become distant from us. It features a persistent favourite of my seaside period - phalocyanine blue.
