In our village is a farmer, and behind his farm house is a small field where he has some chickens and where he grows crops of daffodils and also has asparagus beds. In the corner of this old plot is this beautiful big old pear tree. I wanted to paint it in blossom but it only happens for a week each year, and is only fully in blossom for two or three days. My friend the farmer said he would text me, and one day sure enough he did, 'The tree is in blossom'. He never texts me about anything usually, but about this he did. So I set off and found a good angle for the painting. It was April 2009 and the daffodils had just ended. In the field you can just see some flecks of yellow which are the end of the daffodils. I painted this tree again this year 20011 on my birthday in May. It was not in blossom and the composition is entirely different but it is a really successful painting. It is exceptional that I go back to the same place more than once, so I must feel something special about this place.
